Abdullahi Sule, the governor of Nasarawa State, has approved the construction of an underpass and flyover in Lafia, as well as a number of other rural development projects throughout the state, for a total of over N30 billion.

Ibrahim Uthman Angbolo, the commissioner of information, culture, and tourism, gave journalists an overview of the approvals during a recent state executive council meeting.

Angbolo claims that the construction of a 1-kilometer underpass and flyover in Lafia, which is anticipated to cost N16.6 billion, is a major project. The contractor has been instructed to start work right away in order to reduce traffic in the state capital.

In order to improve traffic flow and further relieve congestion in Lafia, he said, the council has allocated N3.2 billion for the construction of three new roads.

“Although there are link roads to the major highways that cross Lafia metropolis, council considered a number of roads within the city for construction and approved the construction of these roads at the total sum of N2.3 billion to ease movement and traffic grid,” the commissioner stated.

According to the commissioner, N7.91 billion will be spent on an overhaul for Akwanga, the seat of the Akwanga Local Government Area. A contract for a link road that would connect Kwandere-Keffi Road to Mada Station, valued at N61.5 million, was also authorised by the council.

The construction and dualization of certain roads connecting Keffi Road from the roundabout and Lafia Road from the roundabout in Akwanga, at a cost of N7.91 billion, was approved by council in light of the government’s resolve to modernise the headquarters of the three senatorial zones.

In an effort to enhance the working conditions of civil servants and the civil service, the government has chosen to give contracts for the building of a suitable secretariat.

In light of this, the government decided to expand the project by awarding the contract for the construction of Phase Two, increasing the number of buildings to be delivered in order to accommodate more ministries, after awarding the contract for Phase One, Lot 1 and 2.

“At this point, the council approved the awarding of contracts for the N6.8 billion construction of the new government secretariat, Phase Two,” the speaker said.

Angbolo It further says that the entire secretariat complex’s design, which came at a cost of N991.1 million, was approved. A new market will be built in Doma for N971.1 million, and N263,387 will be needed to finish the stores and warehouses that are next to it at Lafia Square.
