To further its electricity and sustainability agenda, the Nasarawa State Government has partnered with the Nigeria Off-Grid Market Acceleration Programme (NOMAP).

In Lafia, the state capital, the Nasarawa Electricity Power Agency (NAEPA) served as the technical lead and NOMAP, the state government, through the Nasarawa Investment and Development Agency (NASIDA), signed a Memorandum of Understanding to that effect.

According to our correspondent, NOMAP’s Programme Director, Mr. Adedotun Eyinade, signed on behalf of his organisation, while NASIDA’s Managing Director, Ibrahim Abdullahi, signed on behalf of the state government.

Under the Scaling Off Grid Energy Grand Challenge for Development (SOGE) initiative, the Shell Foundation, USAID Power Africa, and the UK Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) collaborated to build NOMAP in 2018.

Its main objective is to address the obstacles preventing the

Nigeria’s Off-Grid Energy Sector and to encourage the development of a climate that is conducive to clean energy, particularly off-grid solar solutions in rural regions.

According to Ibrahim Abdullahi, Managing Director of NASIDA, the agreement is a step towards realising the State’s goal of ranking among Nigeria’s top three most competitive economies.

He added that the state’s offering will be strengthened even more with NOMAP’s assistance, which will help enhance the business climate, reassure potential investors, and provide real advantages to populations that are difficult to reach.

The partnership with NOMAP offers a chance to improve the off-grid energy environment in our state, draws capital, and encourages sustainable growth.

We are enthusiastic about the project’s potential and encourage everyone involved in the value chain for power to get ready and participate.

He said, “The programme will assist the State government in developing its off-grid energy policy, strengthen the capabilities of pertinent state government agencies, aid in the policy’s implementation, and enable additional private sector and development partner support for off-grid clean energy projects in the State.”
