NANS calls for Nigerian Government intervention on tuition fee hike
The Federal Government must act quickly to save its members, according to the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), in light of certain higher education institutions’ intentions to raise tuition.

The association’s Senate President, Mr. Akinteye Afeez, made this claim in a statement that he gave to reporters on Thursday in Lagos.
Recent suggestions to increase tuition fees, particularly those from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) and the Federal College of Agriculture, Akure (FECA), have angered Afeez.
The fact that some vice chancellors and presidents of schools appear prepared to disregard the Federal Government’s clear orders opposing tuition fee increases is depressing and concerning.
“This is inhumane, and for that reason we demand that the Federal Government intervene immediately in order to bring these negligent institutions under control and address the impending crisis that surrounds this fee increase,” he declared.
He said that if the educational institutions continue to press for higher tuition, NANS would organise a statewide demonstration by Nigerian students until its demands are fulfilled.
