Naira Redesign: Three States File Court Contempt Charges Against Malami and Emefiele
The states have stated that the citizens have experienced extreme hardship as a result of the policy’s implementation.
In response to their claimed refusal to follow the Supreme Court’s order on obsolete naira notes, the states of Kaduna, Kogi, and Zamfara have instituted contempt proceedings against the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, and the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele.
The three states reminded the AGF and the CBN Governor of the repercussions of their continuous disobedience of the supreme court’s decision from February 3 in the newly submitted filings with the court.

The Supreme Court Justices will evaluate the two sets of Form 48 that the attorneys for the three states filed when the case is resumed on Wednesday.
The states have stated that the citizens have experienced extreme hardship as a result of the policy’s implementation.
In response to an ex parte application filed by the three states, the Apex court prevented the CBN from enforcing the deadline for the use of outdated notes on February 8.
The only respondent in the case, the AGF, had also submitted a preliminary objection, claiming that the supreme court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.
Malami added that the CBN was not included as a plaintiff in the lawsuit, which only names the AGF.
As Edo and Bayelsa states joined the AGF as defendants, seven other states joined as co-plaintiffs.
