NAFDAC Shuts Down ₦2 Billion Worth of Fake Alcohol Packaging Centers in Lagos

In a major crackdown, NAFDAC uncovers and shuts down fake alcohol packaging centers valued at ₦2 billion in Lagos. Investigations are ongoing. 

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has discovered fake alcohol packaging centers at Article Market, Abule-Osun in Lagos State, confiscating items valued at approximately ₦2 billion.

In a statement on Thursday via X, NAFDAC reported that during the operation, more than 50,000 counterfeit branded labels and packaging materials used to produce unauthorized and dangerous alcoholic beverages were seized.

The agency portrayed the raid as an important measure for safeguarding public health and safety.

According to the statement, NAFDAC has shut down unauthorized alcohol packaging activities at Article Market in Abule-Osun, Lagos State. During the operation, authorities seized more than 50,000 counterfeit branded labels and packaging materials for fraudulent alcoholic drinks, estimated to be worth about ₦2 billion.

NAFDAC disclosed that the items were utilized in the unlawful manufacturing of alcoholic beverages, which present significant health hazards.

“These items were used to produce unauthorized and dangerous alcoholic products. NAFDAC cautions against the serious health dangers of fake alcohol, such as poisoning and organ harm,” stated the announcement.

NAFDAC encouraged consumers to stay alert by buying alcoholic beverages solely from reliable vendors and reporting any suspicious actions.

The statement further advised consumers to buy alcoholic drinks exclusively from reputable sellers and report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.
