NAF airstrikes have successfully destroyed 13 illegal refining sites and 10 overhead tanks in a significant crackdown on illegal activities.

On Sunday, the Nigerian Airforce reported that its Operation Delta Safe’s Air Component has eradicated 13 illicit refining sites and dismantled 10 overhead tanks along with numerous containers of unlawfully refined materials around Obizor, Okoloma.

In a statement, Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet credited the success to heightened patrol activities by the Airforce in the Niger Delta region.

According to the statement, “One of its most triumphantly executed operations occurred along Imo River close to Obuzor and Okoloma where diverse unlawful refining sites were identified as exploiting the challenging landscape for their nefarious activities.”

After the crew utilized the weapons on board, approximately 13 sites were destroyed. Additionally, an array of overhead tanks that connected to reservoirs and various gallons were also ravaged during this operation.

On the same day, as the crew went further downstream during their patrol, they caught sight of a 6-wheeled tipper truck parked by the riverbank.

The perpetrators were seen loading illegal goods into four canoes. Once an extensive search of the area was carried out and it became apparent that lawbreakers fled upon spotting them in their aircraft, both vehicles were obliterated.

The patrol team proceeded to cover the Trans Niger Pipeline section from Rumuekpe-Nkpoku up until Bonny, and monitored various checkpoints such as End Point, Bodo trunk line, Point, Small line attachment along with Nkpoku-New Ebubu Trunkline and Rumuekpe-Nkpoku.
