N2.1trn 2023 second reading of the supplementary appropriations bill scales

In the House of Representatives, the 2023 Supplementary Appropriations Bill swiftly passed second reading on Tuesday, with members arguing that it is necessary for the good of the nation.

The House was contacted by President Bola Tinubu to request passage of a supplementary budget for 2023 totaling N2,176,791,286,033, which would be used for security, labour pay changes, and other purposes.

The House of Representatives received the 2024–2026 Medium Term Expenditure Framework & Fiscal Strategy Paper from the President as well.

On Monday, the N2.1 trillion 2023 supplemental budget was approved by the Federal Executive Council (FEC).

The budget is intended to cover critical needs, according to Atiku Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, who made this statement following the FEC meeting in Abuja.

At the State House in Abuja, he stated, “The council considered a request for supplementary appropriation which is a second for 2023.”

“And kindly approved the additional budget of N2,176,791,286,033, which is intended to cover N605 billion for national security and defence among other pressing concerns.

“This is to accelerate and maintain the security gains that have been made; the security agencies require these funds before the year ends.”
