The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) destroyed illicit substances in Ogwashi Uku on Tuesday, with an estimated value of about N1 billion.
Ivan Omhonria, a two-year-old boy who was killed by a drunk driver in Delta State, was honoured by the agency when it dedicated the exercise to him.
Last Thursday, one of its cops accidentally shot a person in the vicinity of Okpanam in Delta State.
While pursuing alleged barons, NDLEA agents killed the young child.
Major General Buba Marwa (ret. ), the chairman/chief executive officer of the agency, spoke at the event and expressed regret over the terrible death of the child. He also announced the dedication.
Fidelis Kokodia, the commander in charge of Zone M, spoke on behalf of the chairman.
“I want to declare with a sad heart that the public destruction of narcotics that have been recovered in Delta State is dedicated to the child who gave the ultimate sacrifice with his life in the fight to make Delta State safe and secure through drug control efforts. We are sending our condolences and prayers to the heroine of the drug war’s family, he said.
5.614 tonnes of cannabis sativa, 416.77 grammes of cocaine, 105.12 grammes of methamphetamine, 98.2 grammes of heroin, 20.264 grammes of tramadol, 1.867 kilogrammes of swinol/rophynol, 8.355 kilogrammes of diazepam, and 1.2 kilogrammes of pentazocine were among the substances destroyed, according to Mr. John Tunde, Delta State Commander of NDLEA.
