My grandchild passed away in government hospital due to medical negligence – Akpabio

“There’s no doctor or nurse. He battled and fell to the ground after bleeding out to the point where he had lost 60% of his blood.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio described how he lost a grandson as a result of medical malpractice in a public hospital.

On the floor of the upper legislative house in Abuja, he announced this on Friday during the ministerial screening.

The former governor of Akwa Ibom State addressed during Tunji Alausa’s nomination hearing for a ministerial position by President Bola Tinubu.

As Alausa was interrogated and offered answers to problems with Nigeria’s healthcare system, the legislator acknowledged that he had been the victim of medical neglect.

Everybody else has experienced medical negligence, claimed Akpabio.

“In a government medical facility in 2019, my first grandchild passed away from bleeding. There was no assistance, the former governor said. “He was receiving drip, and it was tissued in the night.

He needed to find some water to drink. He rolled outdoors on the ground and stepped into the morning dew. Without a doctor or nurse. He battled and fell to the ground after bleeding till 60 percent of his blood had been lost.

Senator Akpabio stated, “By then, he had entered a coma.”

He said, “I struggled,” as he described his experience. A defibrillator was brought to try to restart the heart, but it was unsuccessful.

“I used my hand and fought with my personal doctor, but I was unable to revive him. I had to put him in the mortuary while covering his eyes, admitted Akpabio.
