Prof. Sambo Janaidu, the head of the Sultanate Council of Sokoto’s Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.
The message says, “This is to notify the Muslim Ummah that the new moon of Rajab 1445 AH will be found on Friday, January 12, which is comparable to the 29th day of Jumada-Assani 1445 AH.
It stated, “Muslims are requested to start the search on Friday and report its sighting to the nearest Village Head or District Head so that the Sultan is notified.”
The Sultan prayed, pleading with Allah to help all Muslims perform their religious obligations.
According to Obasanjo News24, Rajab, the seventh month in the Islamic calendar, is regarded as one of the four holy months in Islam when fighting is forbidden.
