Elon Musk makes a multimillion-dollar pledge to Donald Trump, according to WSJ. Explore the details and implications of this significant donation.
According to sources, the “extraordinary” amount will be given as a donation to an organisation that aims to support Donald Trump’s victory in the election.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Elon Musk, a technology mogul, is planning to donate approximately $45 million monthly towards a newly formed superPAC that supports former US President Donald Trump.
According to the outlet, Musk has expressed his intentions of commencing contributions from this month onwards towards America PAC. The objective of the group is to concentrate on voter outreach and combat comparable campaigns by Democrats.
According to the WSJ, it would be an exceptional amount if Musk donated such a large sum.
According to a financial report submitted on Monday to the Federal Election Commission, the technology tycoon has not made any donations to the organisation as of June’s end.
According to the filing, notable entrepreneurs like Joe Lonsdale, co-founder of Palantir software company, and Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss, billionaires in the crypto industry, are among those supporting this super PAC formed at the end of May. Reports confirm that Lonsdale donated $1 million, while each of Cameron and Tyler’s contributions was worth $250,000.
According to the federal filing, since its establishment, the organisation has accumulated $8.75 million and possessed slightly below $100,000 in cash by June’s end.
With an estimated net worth of $252 billion, Musk is among the world’s wealthiest individuals. He publicly voiced his support for Trump soon after the presidential nominee survived a shooting at a campaign event in Pennsylvania. While giving a speech, several shots were fired, and one grazed his right ear.
On Saturday, Musk expressed his complete support for President Trump and wished him a speedy recovery in the following statement on X (previously known as Twitter).
Musk’s commitment to involve himself in the 2024 election campaign contradicts his earlier assurance of staying uninvolved, as he previously declared himself politically neutral. He had announced in March that neither presidential candidate would receive any donations from him.
Since 2022, Musk has continuously expressed disapproval of the current White House administration. Towards the end of May, he publicly condemned a Manhattan jury’s verdict, which found Trump guilty on 34 charges related to “falsifying business records.”
Recent months have seen Musk seemingly develop a closer relationship with Trump. The WSJ revealed in May that the Tesla CEO and ex-president had clandestine discussions regarding the possibility of Musk assuming an advisory position at the White House during another potential term for Trump.
