Former National Human Rights Commission Chairman Chidi Odinkalu has opened up about retired Supreme Court Justice Musa Dattijo’s remarks regarding the degree of corruption in the country’s legal system.
According to OBASANJONEWS24, Dattijo bemoaned Friday’s high level of political meddling and corruption in the judiciary at a farewell court session.
Additionally, he expressed disapproval of Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), and his total powers, stating that “it is said that a person with absolute powers corrupts easily and absolutely.”
Dattijo questioned the South-East’s current lack of representation and is said to have chosen not to serve as one of the Justices handling the appeals from the presidential election court.
at response to Dattijo’s comments on Saturday, Odinkalu stated that those who accomplished various immoral deeds during the Supreme Court’s presidential election appeals never anticipated that the retired justice would reveal the injustices at the highest court.
“No one anticipated that a Supreme Court Justice would emerge to pop the bubble while they were plotting how to handle the triumphant aftermath and the timeline for finishing the presidential election appeals. “#Dattijo is going to become a verb,” Odinkalu wrote on Saturday night on his X handle.
According to OBASANJONEWS24, the Supreme Court rejected the petitions filed on Thursday by Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, which contested President Bola Tinubu’s victory in the February 2023 presidential election.
