The Israel Defense Forces have confirmed that a Hezbollah UAV attack on an army base in Binyamina resulted in at least four deaths and seven personnel being “severely injured” on Sunday. Previously, Israeli media reported over 60 injuries in the area but did not disclose the target of the attack.
The militant group declared that it carried out a drone swarm attack on a Golani Brigade camp in Binyamina earlier this Sunday. This area, situated south of Haifa, has recently been frequently targeted by Hezbollah strikes.
The IDF confirmed early Monday that “a UAV launched by the Hezbollah terrorist organization struck an army base near Binyamina. Four IDF soldiers lost their lives in the incident, and seven others were seriously injured.”
According to IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari, the drone successfully bypassed Israeli air defenses and hit the base at approximately 7:00 PM. He also mentioned that an investigation is underway to determine how an unmanned aerial vehicle managed to evade detection by the air defense systems.
According to initial reports from Israeli media, a Hezbollah drone strike in the Binyamina area on Sunday resulted in 67 injuries. The Israeli military has imposed censorship preventing the release of images or videos depicting such strikes’ aftermaths. Nevertheless, unverified videos surfaced on social media on Sunday, seemingly showing a canteen with roof damage and several blood stains on the floor.
American journalist Jeremy Loffredo was arrested in the West Bank last week while covering the aftermath of a recent Iranian attack on Israel. According to Israeli outlet Ynet’s report from Thursday, Loffredo is set to appear in court facing charges of “aiding the enemy during wartime and providing information to the enemy.”
Over the past year, Hezbollah and Israel have regularly engaged in exchanges of strikes. However, last month, Israel intensified its military efforts against the Lebanese armed group. West Jerusalem initiated a large-scale bombing campaign along with limited ground operations in Lebanon following a series of explosive incidents involving hand-held electronics that resulted in dozens of deaths and thousands of injuries across the country—an attack widely attributed to Israeli orchestration.
The IDF has publicly confirmed that approximately two dozen of its soldiers have died in Lebanon. However, Hezbollah claims that the actual number of Israeli fatalities is much higher.
