Multiple Accidents on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Leave Motorists Stranded, One Dead

Tragic multiple accidents on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway cause major traffic disruptions, leaving motorists stranded and claiming one life.

Drivers on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway found themselves stuck on Wednesday morning due to several accidents on the Kara Bridge, which brought traffic to a standstill along this frequently traveled road.

The accidents, which took place on the Kara Bridge heading out of Lagos, involved heavy-duty trucks loaded with containers and cars.

A total of seven vehicles were involved in the two accidents. These include a Volkswagen Bus with vehicle number KJA436YD, a Nissan Urvan registered as CO1203Rs, an articulated Mack Truck bearing registration T17083LA, another unidentified-registered Mack truck, a blue Iveco articulated truck with plate number KMC594ZQ, a Toyota Hiace bus marked 14C241DT and a Sino Articulated Truck carrying the registration AAB440XC.

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), one person was confirmed dead and four others were injured in the initial accident that occurred at midnight.

“The bus driver died instantly, and the park association took his body,” Lagos Sector Commander of the FRSC, Kehinde Hamzat, reported to Channels Television.

The second part of the accident happened almost immediately, but there were no fatalities.

The FRSC commander stated that the crash was caused by speeding, which resulted in a loss of control.

FRSC officials and police officers were observed at the incident site, actively working to clear the obstruction and facilitate traffic flow.

At the time of submitting this report, vehicular traffic was at a standstill, leaving motorists departing Lagos stranded all the way to the 7up area.

The state’s FRSC commander advised motorists to remain calm, assuring them that professionals are being consulted to handle the situation and essential equipment is being mobilized for recovery operations.

He also recommended that motorists with time-sensitive commitments consider exploring alternative routes or postponing their trips until the situation is under control.
