Subscribers who have availed airtime or data loans from the company might be required to repay the debt on their accounts due to a mistake in the MTN system.
This is even as customers, who thought the telecom provider purposefully waived their bills, have taken to social media to express gratitude and celebration for the telecom provider.
For example, a user by the name of Ada posted, “Debt has been paid,” to her WhatsApp status. MTN borrowers Verify your account, MTN doesn’t clear your transaction.
In the meantime, an MTN representative’s answer made plain that customers would still be accountable for paying their bills. It stated, “Even after MTN resolves the issue that caused the debts to disappear from their accounts, users would still be responsible for paying the supposed cleared bills.”
He clarified that the reason why the subscribers’ debts vanished from their accounts was a fault, and that even when MTN fixes the issue, the subscribers will still be responsible for paying the ostensibly cleared debts.
