More than one billion Naira worth of illegal products are seized by customs

Between January 30 and August 9, 2023, the Federal Operations Unit, Zone “D” of the Nigeria Customs Service confiscated illegal goods worth N1.17 billion.

At a news conference held on Wednesday in Bauchi, Joseph Adelaja, the Acting FOU Controller, said this.

He stated, “Over the course of the review period, the unit made a total of 88 seizures, notable among which are 174,585 litres of petroleum products and nine sacks of pangolin scales and claws weighing 396.4kg.”

He went on to say that the unit also confiscated 343 bags of fertiliser, 328 bags of 50kg foreign rice, 1,800 bags of sugar (each weighing 50kg), and other items.

He said the team seized two birds (African crowned cranes), an antelope, a chunk of lion bone, and a plastic jar containing lion fat.

Adelaja claims that the operatives also seized 1,800 bags of sugar (50 kg) per bag, 342 packs of foreign candies, 190 cartons of flavor-infused powdered drinks, 23 sacks of worn shoes, and 88 cartons of insecticides.
