According to information released by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), 3,963 educators who sat the Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) in November 2023 were not successful.
This represented about 27.1% of all applicants who took the test, according to the report.

This was disclosed at a Monday interactive session with journalists in Abuja by Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, Registrar of the TRCN, which conducted the examination.
Ajiboye claims that the test was given to evaluate the professional abilities of educators.
“A total of 15,753 took the exam at 38 locations across the nation,” he said. Out of this, 10,636 people passed, or roughly 72.9%, while 3,963 people failed.
Ajiboye bemoaned the fact that some applicants did not show up for the test, while others had their results voided because of improper examination techniques. He pledged that the council will keep up its efforts to advance the status of Nigerian teachers.
