The US embassy in Nigeria said that more than 150,000 Nigerians had interviews for visas in 2023, highlighting the US’s dedication to processing the large number of visa applications from Nigerian nationals.
The embassy’s charge d’affaires, David Greene, expressed the efforts of the embassy to handle the spike in visa applications, saying in a Sunday interview with NAN that the number of visas requested exceeded the number of visas that were available.
“The demand for visa appointments exceeds the supply when it comes to visas, it is a simple fact,” he stated.
Therefore, those appointments are available, and every effort is being made to close that gap.
People are unaware that we have spoken with over 150,000 Nigerians so far this year.
This is on top of the thirty thousand students. Numerous thousands of students have had the chance to apply for US visas.
“We are making every effort to obtain appropriate procedures for every category, and following a significant backlog caused by COVID-19 and related issues,
But we’ve come a long way still. We introduced a five-year period for US visas in March.
Nigerians who intend to visit the US should apply as soon as possible and make sure their visa requests are connected to specific activities, Greene advised.
“People who are applying for visas ought to apply as soon as possible and make sure that the plan is for as long as possible,” he advised.
“We will make every effort to ensure that those in need of a warrant visa to enter the US can obtain one, as we acknowledge that there is a backlog.”
