Gunmen whose identities remain unknown carried out a fatal attack on Thursday night, resulting in the death of Abdulmutalib Nuhu, a third-class chief in Sensani Village, located in the Gasol Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Reports indicate that the tragic incident occurred just hours before the commencement of the Nwonyo Fishing and Cultural Festival, an event organized by the Taraba State Government in the Ibbi Local Government Area.

Ibbi happens to be the hometown of Hamisu Bala, also known as Wadume, a notorious gun runner who was recently released from prison, adding a layer of complexity to the situation.

The attackers reportedly arrived at Sensani village around 9 pm on Thursday and proceeded directly to the traditional ruler’s palace, situated a short distance from Ibbi where the festival was scheduled to take place.

Despite the tragic incident, the Taraba State Government has assured attendees of the festival of adequate security measures to ensure their safety during the event.

Nuhu Sanseni, the older brother of the deceased chief, recounted to the press that the gunmen arrived on motorcycles armed with guns, fatally shot his brother, and made off with his phones.

According to a senior police officer familiar with the case, law enforcement authorities are actively pursuing leads to track down the perpetrators responsible for the heinous crime.

The Acting Police Public Relations Officer for the Taraba State Police Command, ASP James Lashen, mentioned that he was en route to the office at the time of the report and was not yet fully informed of the situation.
