The Plateau Peace Building Agency (PPBA) issued a warning on Tuesday, stating that recent unjustified attacks on the state’s defenceless inhabitants run the risk of undoing the state government’s meagre gains in conflict prevention and peacebuilding.

The PPBA also expressed disapproval of the recent incident in Du village, Kwall area of Irigwe chiefdom, Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, which resulted in some fatalities and varying degrees of injury for others.

The Irigwe and Fulani people signed an Expression of Commitment to Peace Agreement in July 2021, according to OBASANJO NEWS24.

This was announced by Elkannah Izam, Director, Administration and Officer, in Jos, the State Capital, through Kenneth Dakop, Team Lead, Strategic Communication, PPBA.

Izam expressed his sympathy to those who had been hurt in the most recent attack and to the Irigwe people, but he also said that “there is a need for continued engagement and mediation with crucial stakeholders across the state, in order to complement the kinetic operations of the security services operating in the state.

He then filed a lawsuit to encourage peace and collaboration between communities and the state’s security system in order to root out criminal elements both within and outside of such areas.

The supervisory officer PPBA also urged the state’s security agencies to “check the growing trend of mob actions allegedly carried out by the proscribed commercial motorcycle riders within the metropolis.”

“Reported cases of mob attacks on innocent Nigerians by commercial motorcyclists pose a clear and present danger to the safety of citizens and a threat to the hard-won peace the state is currently enjoying,” he insisted.

He urged Nigeria Police, as well as other well-meaning people and business entities, to recognise and address the current security danger. He also urged community and religious leaders, youth and women’s organisations, and other well-meaning people and corporate entities to do the same.
