In an extraordinary tale of survival, a 7-year-old boy endures five days in a Zimbabwe game park surrounded by lions, emerging unharmed.

In an incredible story of survival, a seven-year-old boy from Zimbabwe has been rescued after spending five days alone in a game park populated by lions and elephants.

Tinotenda Pudu, hailing from northern Zimbabwe, ventured 49 kilometers (30 miles) away from his residence into Matusadona National Park. This expansive wilderness is renowned for its high concentration of predators and other hazardous wildlife.

The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) reported that the boy used his survival instincts and skills to remain alive. He consumed wild fruits and utilized a stick to dig shallow wells in dry riverbeds for water—vital lessons for individuals residing in drought-prone areas.

Community members organized a search party, using drum beats to guide him back. However, it was the park rangers who eventually discovered Tinotenda by noticing small footprints near their patrol route.

MP Mutsa Murombedzi, who posted the story on social media, mentioned that Tinotenda was spotted when he ran towards a ranger’s vehicle, barely escaping being overlooked. “This was probably his final opportunity,” she commented.

The park covers more than 1,470 square kilometers (570 square miles) and hosts approximately 40 lions, along with elephants, hippos, and various other wildlife. Matusadona once had one of the highest lion densities in Africa and remains treacherous for humans—especially a young child.

Social media has been inundated with praise for Tinotenda’s resilience. “His survival is truly miraculous,” one commenter noted, while another remarked, “He’ll have quite the tale to share with his classmates.”
