The Senior Advocate of Nigeria said that a Minister of State’s proposals are subject to approval by a different cabinet member.

A Minister of State being appointed is an abnormality, according to Festus Keyamo, the departing Minister of State for Labor and Employment.

This was said by him during a speech he gave on Wednesday during a session that served as his farewell.

Keyamo cited specific provisions of the constitution, but added that his observation was not made out of ungratefulness but rather as a contribution to the nation’s constitutional development as a still-developing democracy and to help future governments maximize the performance of those they appoint as ministers.

In a lengthy statement made available to the media, he explained that it is challenging to evaluate the individual performances of the Ministers of State because their discretion is constrained by that of the Ministers, and any original ideas developed by a Minister of State must first receive approval from a different cabinet member before being forwarded to the Council for consideration.

The President also congratulated the State House staff members who had worked with him over the last eight years during the closing remarks.

He said that he and his cabinet are proud of the service they provided to Nigerians and asked them to support the new leader.

The President was reported as stating, “I am proud to say we gave our best,” in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Femi Adesina.

The President issued an order to the ministers to finish their job and prevent any last-minute rushes that may jeopardize the excellent things they had accomplished over the years.
