The country’s economy has suffered as a result of previous strike actions by labour unions, according to Minister of Labour and Employment Simon Lalong.
In an effort to prevent organised labour from beginning yet another strike, the Minister made this statement on Monday in Abuja as a scheduled meeting with NLC officials got under way.
In order to respond to the requests of the working unions in a fair and reasonable manner, he pledged to work with labour.
He urged the labour leaders to be open and truthful in their discussions.
The minister was upbeat that a decision of national importance would come out of the conference.
Joe Ajaero, the president of the NLC, responded by stating that his team was attending the meeting unsure of whether “something will happen or not,” since numerous other gatherings with a similar purpose in the past had never produced a fruitful outcome.
He added that the strikes in the past that the minister had mentioned were the result of the distress that Nigerian workers had to endure as a result of the elimination of gasoline subsidies.
In addition, Ajaero pointed out that despite numerous meetings, not a single agreement with the FG had been addressed.
He passionately denounced the raid on the NURTW office in Nigeria, which resulted in the arrest and detention of several of its leaders.
He asserts that the NLC can move forward with its intended strike based only on that action.
