Minimum Wage Approval Will Reflect Nigeria’s Financial Capacity – Tinubu
President Bola Tinubu has announced his intention to approve a new minimum wage that is within the financial capabilities of the Nigerian government.
This announcement was made during a dinner in Abuja to commemorate Nigeria’s 25 years of uninterrupted democracy, attended by top government officials including the Senate President and Deputy Senate President.
President Tinubu expressed his gratitude to those who have supported him and assured Nigerians that he remains committed to the principles of democratic governance.
He also mentioned that an Executive Bill on the new minimum wage will soon be presented to the Senate President and his deputy.
President Tinubu emphasized that the minimum wage will be set at a level that is affordable for all parties involved. Additionally, he pledged to address the issue of banditry to help reduce food prices by encouraging farmers to return to their fields.
The Nigerian Labour Congress has expressed their expectation for a new minimum wage of N250,000, following the submission of different cost implications by various stakeholders.
President Tinubu is now tasked with reviewing these reports and making a decision on the proposed minimum wage, which will then be presented to the National Assembly for approval.
