Military Pledges to Tackle Terrorists, Warns Against Troop Movement Leaks

The Nigerian military vows to intensify its fight against terrorism, cautioning collaborators against leaking sensitive troop movements that jeopardize operations.

The Defense Headquarters has pledged to take action against terrorists and their accomplices in Nigeria.

Major General Edward Buba, a spokesman for the DHQ, explained that the recent surge in attacks in Borno State is due to foreign agents who are bolstering terrorists operating in the North-East.

During a press conference in Abuja on Thursday, General Buba stated that the situation deteriorated due to local collaborators revealing the movements of troops.

He acknowledged that there have recently been recorded attacks by troops in Damboa, Chibok, and Gwoza in Borno State. However, he emphasized the military’s commitment to combating terrorists and their collaborators to ensure a safer Nigeria.

General Buba stated that the renewed wave of attacks by these terrorists can be attributed to an influx of foreign fighters providing reinforcement.

The foreign fighters originate from the Sahelian region, and the situation is exacerbated by local collaborators who form a support base for these terrorists.

They act as informants, reporting on troop movements to the terrorists. Despite the circumstances, troops remain profoundly aware of their roles and responsibilities in combating insurgency nationwide.

Several military personnel are unaccounted for following a recent ambush by Boko Haram terrorists in Baga, near the shores of Lake Chad.

Reports indicate that the soldiers were ambushed during their attempt to recover the bodies of 40 residents who had been killed by insurgents. During the ensuing gun battle, several soldiers also lost their lives.

Additionally, terrorists associated with the Islamic State group allegedly killed six soldiers in an attack on a military base in Borno just days ago.
