John Obi Mikel, a former Chelsea midfielder, has shared the details of his best-ever performance for the club.
Mikel, who is currently retired from the game of football, cited Chelsea’s victory against Bayern Munich in the 2012 Champions League final as his best-ever performance for the Premier League’s West London side.
Recall that in the Champions League final in Germany, Chelsea defeated Bayern Munich 4-3 on penalties thanks in large part to the crucial midfield contribution of the Nigerian.
After 120 minutes, the 2012 Champions League final was a 1-1 tie.
On that occasion, players like Didier Drogba and Petr Cech naturally garnered attention, but many fans believe Mikel gave the best performance throughout the course of 120 minutes.
The 2012 Champions League final between Chelsea and Bayern was Mikel’s “best-ever game,” according to the Chelsea official website.
“Didier [Drogba] came through and undoubtedly saved the day. I should have won man of the match. I’ve since seen that game several times.
“There is nothing better than this,” he continued.
In the end, Mikel departed Chelsea to sign with Tianjin TEDA in China in 2017.
Since then, the 36-year-old has given up playing professional football.
