Micah Richards, a former Manchester City defender, has criticised Napoli’s media over a recent contentious TikTok video that made fun of striker Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen appeared in a video that was just posted on Napoli’s official TikTok account while costumed as a coconut with a sped-up voiceover.
The Nigerian international’s missed penalty in a 0-0 Serie A tie with Bologna last month was made fun of in the video.
The video, which has since been taken down, drew a lot of criticism, with some calling it racist.
Richards, though, has expressed his opinion on the video and called it embarrassing.
“Where do we start with that because, I’m confused,” he said to CBS Sports Golazo. You have a black man who is dressed as a coconut. Regardless of whether they intended it to be offensive or not, you would undoubtedly immediately ask yourself, “You have a black person, do we want to cover his body with a coconut?” Does that not cross your mind at any time, like?”
“We can’t really say that Napoli as a whole was attacked; it could have been one man or two.” We are unsure. But it’s embarrassing for that to be revealed,” Richards continued.
