A diplomatic perspective on the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) dispute between fellow Argentines Lionel Messi and the late Diego Maradona has been provided by legendary player Juan Roman Riquelme.
Only a select few players have collaborated with both of Argentina’s greatest football players, including Riquelme.
Most people agree that Messi and Maradona are two of the greatest players to have ever played or won a FIFA World Cup.

Riquelme acknowledged Messi’s elite abilities while acknowledging that the late football player was the best player for him at the time. Riquelme grew up idolising Maradona.
“Maradona?,” Riquelme remarked to ESPN (via GOAL).
“When I was younger, he was the best player I ever saw on a football ground.
“Now that I’m older, Messi is the best,” I considered it a great honour to be able to play with both of them.
