According to El Nacional, Lionel Messi, the star of Inter Miami, won’t leave either Barcelona or the MLS team.
Messi moved to Miami this summer, and the deal he made had a 2025 expiration date.
The 36-year-old will then try to rejoin his childhood team in his home Argentina, Newell’s Old Boys.
Messi has the option to extend his contract with Miami for an additional year, but it’s thought he wants to retire in his own country.
Messi left Barcelona in 2021 after spending more than 20 years there. At the age of 13, he transferred from Newell’s to the Spanish powerhouses.
When his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expired, he had the option of returning to Spain, but he turned it down. As a result, it appears like his fairytale return to Barcelona will never materialise.
