The task of encouraging mentorship, regimentation, professionalism, and efficient service delivery has been placed on Air Warrant Officers (AWOs) and Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSMs) by Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar.
In addition, Abubakar tasked them with making sure that information, expertise, and experience are shared among junior airmen and airwomen in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in order to provide mentorship.

Air Commodore Edward Gavkwet, the spokesman for Nigerian AirForce, said in a statement that the CAS assumed command on Wednesday during a retreat for AWOs and RSMs stationed in different parts of the nation.
Owing to the immense experience and expertise that AWOs, RSMs, and other Senior-Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) held, the air chief voiced concern regarding the noted decline in mentoring among the NCO cadre and recommended AWOs and RSMs to revive a mentoring culture in their respective units.
As the liaison between the officers’ cadre and the lower ranks, Abubakar characterised the AWOs and RSMs and insisted that they maintain objectivity in their work.
The CAS underlined how crucial it is to uphold strict discipline, stressing that AWOs and RSMs are in charge of making sure airmen and airwomen under their supervision behave disciplinedly while carrying out their duties.
