Footballer Benjamin Mendy secures an £11 million victory in court against Manchester City over unpaid wages. Explore details of the case and the outcome’s impact on his career.

French footballer Benjamin Mendy has successfully won a legal dispute against Manchester City, resulting in the recovery of approximately £11 million in unpaid wages.

Mendy, who was acquitted of several serious allegations, including six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, effectively contended that the club had wrongfully withheld his wages during the legal proceedings.

Manchester City had suspended Mendy’s salary, citing his inability to perform club responsibilities. This financial burden compelled him to sell his mansion in Cheshire and seek loans from former teammates to cover legal fees, bills, and child support obligations.

The tribunal ruled in favor of Mendy, awarding him the majority of his withheld salary, although the precise amount is still subject to further discussions.

In its summary of the ruling, the tribunal indicated that “Mr. Mendy will be entitled to receive the majority of his unpaid salary, although not all of it.”

Judge Joanne Dunlop remarked that Mendy had spent two distinct periods in custody, totaling approximately five months out of the 22 months encompassed in his claim.

During these periods of custody, Manchester City was justified in withholding his salary.
