Following the attack on NLC President Mister Joe Ajaero, the two labour centres claim they will focus their operations on Imo state, and this demonstration is one of them.

On Thursday, members of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) blocked the entrance to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International in Abuja.

This strike is a part of the unions’ response to the attack in Imo State on NLC President Joe Ajaero.

However, as the protesting unions stormed the venue about 8:58 a.m., grounding aviation operations in one of the busiest airports in the nation, what began as a state issue has now taken on a national undertone.

They had come to the airport to stop flights to Owerri, the capital of Imo State, leaving hundreds of travellers stuck in the air.

Due in part to the conflict with the Imo State government, the NLC and TUC announced a nationwide strike that will begin on Tuesday, November 14.

They all poured out in a convoy to the airport, with the workers’ unions starting the march. The Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport’s access and departure ramps were blocked by the demonstrators.

At the checkpoint, the military prevented the demonstrators from entering the airport. Due to the protestors’ refusal, the airport’s entry and exit points were blocked, resulting in heavy car traffic on both sides and forcing passengers to enter the airport on foot.
