Singing sensation Azeez Fashola, better known by his stage name Naira Marley, has been called before the House of Representatives.

This is a step towards resolving issues with the works of the deceased singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, better known by his stage name Mohbad, and making sure his rights are respected.

The manager of Mohbad, Jiggy Adeoye, was also invited by the House via its Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance.

In order to facilitate the parliamentarians’ scheduled interactive session on October 3, Mohbad’s manager has been invited.

This is a brave move in the right direction to get royalties and appropriate payment for the deceased music icon.

Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, tragically died on September 12 at the age of 27, for an undetermined reason.

Rep. Babajimi Benson’s (APC-Lagos) motion served as the impetus for the House to take up the issue.

Aware of the contracts and agreements that performers were frequently forced to sign, Benson called for an examination of the rules governing copyright and the entertainment business.

The parliamentarians pledged to make sure Mohbad’s musical works receive fair remuneration and royalties during the topic’s discussion in the plenary session on September 26.

Additionally, the MPs promised to keep an eye on the current inquiry of his passing and the royalties that are now owed to him.

The house formally summoned Naira Marley and Mohbad’s manager in a letter dated October 26 and signed by Mr. Yusuf Ibrahim, the Committee’s Clerk.

This was done in order to give the committee some context for the situation and to advise them on possible legislative measures.

The Performing Musicians Associations of Nigeria President handled the letter’s delivery.
