Yakubu Abdulmalik Bala, a member of the Niger State House of Assembly, has defected from the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), which is currently in power.
On Wednesday, the MP from Katcha Constituency defected on the House floor.

“Today I have left the Social Democratic Party for the All Progressives Congress due to the hard work of Mr. Governor in providing the dividends of democracy to the people,” he stated, just waving the APC flag.
The lawmaker’s decision to switch from the SDP to the ruling party was welcomed by the Speaker.
He continued on a lighter note, saying, “We are pleased to have you join the largest ruling party. I’m not sure how one person will serve as the Minority Leader in the House because I’m the only member.
When journalists contacted Bala, he declined to comment further on his choice.
