Melaye Talks About Getting Kogi PDP Delegates Activated: “I Gave Them Anointing Oil”
The senator revealed the unorthodox strategy he used when asked how he organized his delegates, citing a verse from the Bible.
Dino Melaye, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the November 11 Kogi State governorship election, has credited God for helping him win the primary last Sunday, stating that he used “anointing oil” to inspire his supporters.
Melaye spoke on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday to refute accusations that the much-criticized primary process was rigged.
He suggested that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Crimes Commission (ICPC) may know more than he does in response to claims that delegates were monetarily motivated.
“I do not work for the EFCC or the ICPC. I have no way of knowing if money was exchanged. But if I am unable to afford a primary at my level, something is wrong. But without a doubt, God supported me. He declared, “I bank with the omnipotent God.
When asked more about his strategy for organizing his delegates, the senator revealed it by quoting a verse from the Bible.
“I anointed them, and it worked like magic. I already stated that I hold to Philippians 4:19, which states that God will meet all of my needs according to His resources and glory in Christ Jesus. He did it, I’m telling you,” he said.
Following the primary, a number of the runners-up, including former deputy governor Yomi Awoniyi, questioned the process and urged that the “right thing” be done at a press conference.
We demand that the delegate lists that were generated by the procedures implemented by the party on March 29 and April 8 be used, Awoniyi stated.
We find it intolerable that we are being pressured to use a delegation list that is unrelated to the proceedings.
Melaye responded by asserting that the aspirants’ objections were unfounded, calling the primary “the fairest and most transparent primary ever conducted in Kogi State” and stating that Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had so determined.
