Medically Equipped Aircraft Used to Evacuate Binance Executive from Nigeria by US Government
The US government has facilitated the evacuation of a Binance executive from Nigeria aboard a medically equipped aircraft, underscoring urgent health concerns. Learn more about the implications of this evacuation.
The United States has dispatched a medically equipped aircraft to evacuate Tigran Gambaryan, an executive from Binance Holdings Limited, who is currently in Nigeria.
Tigran Gambaryan was evacuated after the Nigerian government withdrew the money laundering charges previously filed against him on Wednesday.
According to The New York Times, Jake Sullivan, the US National Security Advisor, disclosed that Gambaryan’s release was due to “less confrontational” discussions between Nigerian and US officials.
He stated that a plane outfitted with medical equipment left Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, to return him to the US for essential medical care.
Reports indicate that the embattled Binance executive was arrested while on a business trip to Nigeria in February and has been detained at the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja since April.
On Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Nigeria’s anti-corruption agency withdrew the money laundering charges against Gambaryan.
