President Bola Tinubu has been urged to act quickly to resolve the political crisis in Ondo State, which is being caused by the ongoing conflict between Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Aiyedatiwa. The head of Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, and a few elders in the state have also made this request.
Fasoranti revealed that the political instability, especially the governor’s absence, has been impacting the state’s governance. Fasoranti led other elder statesmen under the banner of Ondo State Elders and Leaders.
After an emergency meeting in the state capital of Akure, a communiqué with the signatures of the secretary of the Afenifere group, Bakitta Bello, claimed that some individuals had taken over the state’s governance.

The elders further asserted that the development will undoubtedly have an impact on the budget planning for 2024 if it is not promptly addressed.
The elder statesmen lamented the state’s absence from significant national events because of the crisis, but they also said that the state’s civil service lacks direction.
“The Elders also call on the state and national leadership of the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress, to ensure discipline among their fold and to provide the necessary guidance to those in government,” the declaration reads.
“In order to prevent the impending collapse of law and order in Ondo State, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is thus strongly called upon to intervene and end the current constitutional crisis in the state.”
