Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, has been re-elected to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Lagos Chairmanship for a second term.
The 10th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference, which was held at the state union secretariat in Agege, on Thursday saw the election of Akinsanya, Sulyman Ojora, the Deputy Chairman; Mustapha Adekunle (Sego), the Treasurer; and 28 other executive members without opposition.
Acting National President of the union Alhaji Aliyu Issa Ore, former National Secretary Kabiru Ado Yau, Controller, Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Lagos Office Eshomounu Itemoagbo, Assistant Chief Labour Officer in the ministry Anthony Ogwu, and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Lagos State Public Relations Officer, Ismail Adejumo, were among those present when they were sworn in by Adejare Kembi, Principal, Excel Practitioners.
Akinsanya expressed gratitude to Ore-led union national body, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and other stakeholders for supporting him during the crisis.
He saved special praise for the union members in the state who had persevered and remained faithful to him as their leader.
He pledged additional helpers and support for union members.
Akinsanya also pledged to carry with his reform initiatives, which have improved union activity throughout the state.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised the union members for electing Akinsanya to a second term in office. He was represented by Lateef Tiamiyu, a Director in the State Ministry of Transportation.
He commended Akinsanya for her capacity to restructure the union operations in the state and for her excellent leadership qualities.
The Governor declared that the days of NURTW members using violence to impose changes in leadership were long gone.
He pleaded with them to keep plugging into the policies of the government.
Akinsanya is a leader who is headed in the right route, according to Itemoagbo.
He praised Akinsanya greatly for hiring over 123 graduates to serve in different union divisions.
In order to guarantee that the union employs more workers, he pledged that the ministry would keep working with the Akinsanya-led union.
Itemoagbo urged union members to continue working so that their organisation could document further advancements.
Alhaji Ore, the union’s acting national president, praised Akinsanya’s ascent as well as that of the other executive members.
He declared: “Those who win this election must lead in a way that exemplifies extraordinary capacity, sacrifice, and leadership. A joint endeavour by the leadership and followership is required to improve the union’s situation.
“Those who are elected must lead by example. In order to ensure that there is peace and togetherness among all the members of this wonderful union at all levels, I therefore implore you all to do everything within your power to operate an open administration free from victimisation and dedicated to justice, equity, and fairness.
