At the Argentina vs. France World Cup final football game on Sunday at Lusail Stadium in Lusail, north of Doha, Kylian Mbappe of France won the FIFA Golden Boot Award.

After Geoff Hurst, an England great, became the first player to score a hat-trick in a World Cup final, France’s Kylian Mbappe became the second.

Hurst was the only player to score three goals in the championship game for 56 years; his treble was essential to England’s 4-2 extra-time victory over West Germany at Wembley in 1966.

But on Sunday, Mbappe’s triple helped France rally from 2-0 and then 3-2 deficits at the Lusail Stadium, tying the score at 3-3 after extra time before Argentina won the match on penalties to end a thrilling contest.

Following Mbappe’s third goal, which was also his second from the penalty spot, Hurst tweeted, “Many congrats to Mbappe; whatever happens, I’ve had a terrific run!”

When the game went to penalties, the France striker scored another goal, but Argentina won 4-2.
