Barr Peter Mbah, the governor of Enugu State, stated that the administration was eager to keep its campaign pledges and that all political appointees will be evaluated in accordance with the performance standards established for all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).
This was said by Mbah in his closing remarks during the three-day Executive Leadership Retreat, which took place at the Nike Lake Resort in Enugu from Friday to Sunday and was attended by senior political appointees.
The African Development Bank’s Prof. Joseph Urama, Dr. Ibukun Awosika, Linus Okorie, Dr. Joe Abah, Dr. Sam Onyia, and Prof. Chukwumerije Okereke were among the development, financial, climate, public sector, strategy, and innovation experts present at the retreat with the theme “Strategic Leadership for Disruptive Innovation and Sustainable Development,” where the governor claimed that increasing the state’s economy from $4.4 billion to $30
“In terms of our vision, I believe what we have said here is feasible. There are several examples throughout the history of development of nations, sub-nationalities, and cities when the populace came together, committed themselves to changing the narrative and pattern of growth, and it actually happened.
No one should therefore claim that what we seek to accomplish in Enugu is impractical. In the next eight years, we can grow our economy to $30 billion thanks to our positive attitude.
“We can build a fantastic city. We can make sure that every child has access to the highest calibre education available anywhere in the globe. In this state, we may also get high-quality healthcare services. 10,000 miles of road can be built.
As promised to our people, we can restore water to Enugu within the next two months. We can also quickly provide access to clean water for all of our people throughout the state. We can also eliminate poverty from our state, count the number of people living in poverty as zero, and keep every promise we made.
“Yes, we can turn Enugu into the top location for commerce, investment, travel, and habitation.
“History beckons on all of us to take action, and we are already considering the future we want to leave for our children. The governor remarked, “We can make it happen if we believe in it and if we have the can-do attitude.
The retreat, according to the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, was organised to help participants process Governor Peter Mbah’s vision and develop plans for implementing it throughout the MDAs.
“We centred the design on three main areas. We focused on ethical leadership, transformative leadership, and other facets of leadership as we created it. We deliberated on the method we would take and prepared a plan for delivery.
“Performance was the third. We discussed how to gauge what our team’s collective definition of success is. Therefore, we have laid out a plan of action,” he said.
Additional participants included the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Barr. Victor Udeh, the Commissioners for Sports and Youth Development, Barr. Lloyd Ekweremadu, Dame Ugochi Madueke, Dr. Nathaniel Uramah, and Mrs. Ngozi Enih; the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Tourism Board, Rita Mbah; and the Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), Dr. GOC
“Any qualms we may have had about the Governor’s ambitious plan’s viability have vanished, if there were any at all. Enih said, “We feel more motivated, knowledgeable, and equipped to go out and deliver; and that is exactly what we are doing when we return to our MDAs.
