Numerous corner shop owners situated at the Federal Housing Estate in Sharada, Kano, have expressed their apprehensions regarding disturbances caused by unidentified individuals masquerading as authorities in an attempt to seize their plots of land.

A formal petition addressed to the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Police Force, the State Governor, and the State Commissioner of Justice was submitted by the Chairman of the Committee of Corner-Shop Owners at Sharada Federal Housing Estate, Alhaji Sani Maikusa, and his Secretary, Hafiz Mato.

The group raised concerns that individuals posing as federal agents have unlawfully taken control of the land parcels.

The Committee emphasized that the deceptive actions of these impostors have the potential to incite significant civil unrest and disrupt the harmonious cohabitation that the State has been enjoying.

The petition highlighted that the signatories are rightful owners of various plots of land designated for corner shops at the Sharada Federal Housing Estate in Kano State.

They have held uninterrupted possession of these lands for over two decades without any conflicting claims from third parties.

The document further stated that the title deeds held by the corner shop owners are still valid and pending, with durations ranging from 60 to 99 years.

Despite having fulfilled all necessary requirements and awaiting the approval of building plans, they are facing challenges due to the failure of some individuals within the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) to complete the necessary processes.

The corner shop owners alleged that certain individuals with tribal biases in Kano are targeting their properties out of greed and a desire to seize their titles, despite the fact that payments have been made.

They accused some corrupt elements within the FHA of neglecting their responsibilities and attempting to deprive them of their rightful ownership.

Despite possessing a legitimate court order from the Kano High Court issued by Hon. Justice Abdu Maiwada Abubakar, the corner shop owners are facing threats to their property rights, with attempts being made to transfer title documents to political associates.

The situation has raised serious concerns among the affected individuals and prompted them to seek intervention from relevant authorities to safeguard their land rights.
