The Abuja National Mosque Management Board has refuted claims that Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Terrorism, gave the order for the National Mosque to be partially demolished.

During a news conference in Abuja on Friday, Haliu Shuaib, the board’s director of finance and administration, denied the reports.

Unconfirmed sources claim that during a meeting with the Abuja mosque management committee headed by Yahaya Abubakar, the Etsu Nupe, Wike ordered the partial demolition of the national mosque.

The committee had gone to the minister to get more information about what was happening with the plots 63 and 99 that had been given to the mosque. Following a three-month grace period established by FCTA, the owner of an undeveloped plot of land had to either develop the property or risk having their certification revoked.

Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic scholar, expressed his displeasure with the study and that Wike be fired.

Shuaib responded by stating: “The Abuja National Mosque Management has been made aware of a news story circulating in print and social media regarding the alleged partial demolition of the National Mosque.

The Muslim Ummah in the nation and abroad is experiencing strain and fear as a result of the news. The Minister of the FCT graciously met the Chairman of the Abuja National Mosque Management Board and his delegation as they paid a courtesy visit.

“Discussions were productive and friendly; topics of common interest that have an impact on Plot 99’s development were covered. The Minister was informed that the plot’s development was receiving significant consideration.

The chairman informed Wike that the projected Inner Northern Motorway had taken up a significant portion of Plot 63, which is located across from Yar’adua Centre.

“The Chairman, therefore, asked to be informed of the plot’s situation and asked that the mosque be given an acceptable substitute for the missing piece and the remaining portion be redistributed. The minister gave a favourable response to this request.

“With regard to the mosque’s renovation, the Chairman pleaded with Wike to utilise his influence to see that the National Mosque’s renovation was finished. He pledged to investigate the matter.
