Danladi Ibrahim, a 33-year-old resident of Nasaru village in the Ningi Local Government Area of Bauchi State, has been arrested for drugging and molesting a 10-year-old girl in the area.
The suspect is alleged to have given the victim a lemon drink laced with an intoxicant, resulting in her unconsciousness and subsequent violation.
SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, confirmed that the victim’s father reported the incident to the divisional police headquarters in Ningi, the headquarters of the Ningi Local Government Area (LGA).
The police spokesman added that the victim sustained severe internal injuries to her private area, which caused her to hemorrhage profusely.
According to the PPRO, “On the 25th May, 2023 at approximately 1233hrs, one Abubakar Garba Yahua of Nasaru village Ningi LGA, Bauchi State, reported at Divisional Headquarters Ningi that on the same date at approximately 1141hrs, one Danladi Ibrahim’m’ aged 33yrs of Nasaru village, Ningi LGA deceitfully gave a lemon drink to his daughter, Nadiya ‘f’
“As a result, the victim sustained serious internal injuries to her private parts and is currently bleeding.”
Wakil stated that a police team led by the DPO transported the victim to the Ningi General Hospital for treatment, from which she was transferred to the National Obstetric Fistula Centre (NOFIC) Ningi, Ningi Local Government Area (LGA), Bauchi State, and then referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Birnin Kudu, Jigawa State for additional medical care.
Wakil announced that the suspect had been apprehended and had confessed to perpetrating the crime during interrogation, while declaring that the police are determined to determine the crime’s origin.
“Since then, the Command has vowed to get to the bottom of the matter and ensure that the guilty party is brought to justice as a deterrent against future occurrences,” he said.
The PPRO added that the ongoing investigation will result in the suspect being accused and prosecuted in court.
However, he urged parents and custodians to maintain constant vigilance over their children and dependents, stating that it is imperative for them to monitor their whereabouts.
The public will be kept informed as the investigation progresses. The command would like to reiterate the need for parents and custodians to keep a close eye on their dependents’ activities.
“It is more important than ever that the whereabouts of wards and the company they keep are constantly monitored by all responsible parties,” stated the PPRO.
