Under the leadership of Erik ten Hag, Manchester United delivered an outstanding performance in the EFL Cup and clinched their largest triumph yet by overwhelming League One team Barnsley.
With an outstanding score of 7-0, United successfully advanced to the last-16 round of the competition.
The rout was contributed to by Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and veteran midfielder Christian Eriksen who each scored two goals. Additionally, Brazilian winger Antony successfully converted a penalty in the first half.
United’s win was their most noteworthy triumph since February 2021, when Covid-19 restrictions resulted in empty stands and their demolition of Southampton by a scoreline of 9-0.

This game marked a significant moment for Ten Hag as his team achieved scoring five or more goals since he took over. The joyous atmosphere was heightened by Eriksen’s two late goals, and the Dutch manager deemed it an impeccable night.
Ten Hag expressed that it was the ideal evening for their team. According to him, they executed their plans entirely by reaching the next round with a win, scoring some extraordinary goals and entertaining their audience while improving on their game model which made them contented.
Although Barnsley’s traveling supporters were loud in their backing, Darrell Clarke’s team was clearly overpowered.
Their most outstanding moment was when Clarke exhibited exceptional skills to manage a ball that appeared to have left the field, resulting in recognition from fans of both teams.
In addition, Manuel Ugarte – United’s £50.5 million acquisition – was given his debut start and impressively showcased his skills as a midfielder during the match. This boosted Ten Hag’s belief that he is closer to achieving the full potential of the squad he envisioned upon joining in 2022.
Ten Hag stays down-to-earth despite the triumph. “I wasn’t shattered after Liverpool, and I’m not rejoicing presently. Our performance in May will reveal where we stand because that’s when we must excel,” he declared while stressing on achieving long-term objectives for this season.
