On Friday, the Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan issued an order placing 33-year-old Kabiru Arewa under remand in a penitentiary for the suspected murder of his wife Suliyat, 24.
Arewa was accused of murder; her address was withheld.
The defendant’s appeal was rejected by Magistrate Olaolu Olanipekun for lack of jurisdiction.

After giving the police instructions to send the case file back to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal counsel, he postponed the case until June 28 for further consideration.
The defendant committed the act on May 22 at around 8:00 p.m. in the Olunloyo neighbourhood of Ibadan, according to what the prosecutor, ASP Anthony Igori, had previously informed the court.
Igori claimed that by striking his wife on the chest with his fist, the defendant had illegally caused her death.
According to him, the offence violated Oyo State’s 2000 Criminal Laws, Section 319.
