The Borno State High Court, under the jurisdiction of Justice Umaru Fadawu, witnessed the conviction and sentencing of Isiyaku Ibrahim by the Maiduguri Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Isiyaku Ibrahim faced prosecution on a single charge related to criminal misappropriation amounting to N12 million.

The EFCC, through its official X handle, confirmed this development, shedding light on the properties involved in the inheritance fraud.

These properties include three houses, two fenced lands (one of which had seven shops), two bread factories, one open land, two truck tankers, and one large installed generator.

The charge against Isiyaku Ibrahim, as stated by the EFCC, accused him and Mallam Ibrahim of misappropriating the aforementioned properties between 2014 and 2019. The properties belonged to Muhammad Isiyaku, who has since passed away.

The charge specified the value of the properties at N12,000,000.00 (Twelve Million Naira) and accused the defendants of criminally misappropriating this amount for personal gain. The misappropriation caused harm to the deceased’s family members.

The charge cited Section 308 of the Penal Code Cap 102 Laws of Borno State, which deems such actions as offenses. The offense is punishable under Section 309 of the same law.

Following the trial, Justice Fadawu delivered the verdict, finding Isiyaku Ibrahim guilty of the charges brought against him.

As a result, Ibrahim received a one-year prison sentence. However, the court also provided an alternative option for Ibrahim to pay a fine of N100,000. This means that Ibrahim can choose to pay the fine instead of serving the prison term.

The court’s decision aims to hold Ibrahim accountable for his actions and ensure justice is served in this case of criminal misappropriation.
