Three people were killed and 15 others injured in a knife attack at a supermarket in Shanghai, according to police on Tuesday. The incident occurred shortly before China’s week-long National Day holiday.
Officers responded quickly after receiving a report of the incident at 9:47 p.m. on Monday. The suspect, identified by city police as Lin Moumou, a 37-year-old male, was subsequently arrested.
Eighteen individuals were transported to the hospital, with three of them succumbing to their injuries. The remaining 15 are not in life-threatening condition, according to a police report. Preliminary investigations indicate that Lin’s outburst was triggered by “personal financial reasons.”
