Man is detained by police after raping prophetess in Ogun church

Lekan Sunday, a 40-year-old mason, was reportedly detained by the Ogun State Police command for allegedly raping a prophetess at a church.

It was discovered that although he is believed to have committed the crime last Thursday, men from the state command were able to capture him on Monday.

According to information provided by our correspondent, the suspect entered the Orioke Aanu Oluwa Gbohunmi church in the Kemta neighbourhood of Ilogbo Adu in Abeokuta with firearms and found the victim asleep inside.

He is alleged to have threatened to kill the prophetess by holding her prisoner and waving a knife in her face.

The prophetess is claimed to have began pleading with the perpetrator to feel sorry on her when her request for assistance from nearby residents went unanswered.

The culprit allegedly insisted on having sex with the prophetess despite Sunday’s repeated requests.

The victim was stated to have approached a local police station where the incident was reported after allegedly raping the prophetess after finally pushing her into submission.

Following receipt of the complaint, the police started looking for the fugitive suspect.

Later, on Monday, he was taken into custody.

The prophetess knew the culprit as a mason and labourer in the neighbourhood, according to Omolola Odutola, state police public relations officer, who confirmed the story to our correspondent on Tuesday.

“The incident took place on Thursday last week. On Monday, we detained the suspect. According to Odutola’s WhatsApp message, the preliminary inquiry into the incident is still ongoing.
