Man is detained by Jigawa police on suspicion of auto theft
A 35-year-old man has been detained by the Jigawa State Police Command on suspicion of stealing an automobile from a dealer in the neighbouring state of Bauchi.
This was disclosed in a statement made on Monday in Dutse by the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Lawan Shi’isu.
According to Shi’isu, the suspect, a resident of the FCT’s Gwarinpa quarters, was apprehended by police in the state’s Birnin Kudu Local Government Area at approximately 11:20 a.m. on Sunday.
He claims that a patrol team from Birnin Kudu Divisional Police Headquarters detained a 35-year-old man from Gwarimpa Quarters FCT, Abuja, on Sunday at around 11:20 a.m. who was in possession of a white Honda without a licence plate and was highly suspected of being a burglar.
“All attempts to stop the driver proved futile,” he claimed, “as the driver was very agitated and refused to slow down when the patrol men sighted the vehicle at a high speed from a great distance.”
The offender hit a bike while attempting to elude the police, he said, which led to the automobile being hooked and being forcibly stopped.
According to the PPRO, the suspect got out of the car and started to run, but he was eventually apprehended and sent to the station.
Shi’isu claimed that three unidentified individuals went to S Fawa Motors on Murtala Muhammad Way in Bauchi and purported to buy a stolen car after the police had earlier received a distress call from the nearby city of Bauchi.
He claimed that the suspects wanted to test drive the car before making a purchase.
However, one of the salesmen insisted on accompanying them, and as they were travelling, the alleged auto thieves forcibly booted him out, drove off in the vehicle, and abandoned him.
Usman Zubairu of Federal Lowcost, Bauchi, was later found to be the car’s legitimate owner, according to the PPRO.
He claimed that the case was transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) at Police Headquarters Dutse for a covert investigation at the direction of the state’s police commissioner, Mr. Emmanuel Ekot.
When the inquiry was over, according to Shi’isu, the suspect will be charged in court.
Additionally, he stated that efforts were being undertaken to apprehend the evading individuals.
