In the state’s Bida Local Government Area, a man was detained by the Niger State Police Command on suspicion of stealing two cows from Chekungi village.
The suspect was detained as a result of a report that A Division Bida received, according to the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who made this announcement in Minna.
He explained that the Division received a notification on Monday about some horses going missing from a property in the Chekungi settlement.
There were roughly five horses housed in the stable, and it was alleged that on Sunday, October 3, 2023, at around 9:11 am, two female horses were taken from the stable.
The PPRO reports that “the complainant strongly suspected one Ahmed Abubakar Aliyu of Zaria, Kaduna, who was in the farm and had been visiting the farm for horse grooming and racing.”

He added that the suspect had been detained right away from the farm and had confessed to the murder while being questioned.
According to Abiodun, the suspect rented a vehicle from the park for N100,000 to transport the two horses from the farm to a neighbouring bush and then to Kaduna.
The police spokesperson said, “Based on the confession, the driver of the car was called and he dumped the horses near Mararaban-Jos, Kadun, and another vehicle was organised to transport the animals back to Bida.
The suspect will be brought before the law, Abiodun said, noting that the investigation into the matter is still underway.
